The development of a disaster recovery capability is a significant undertaking for any IT department.

" It requires the appreciation of competing characteristics in the disaster recovery environment as well as balancing the interests of those stakeholders within the business."

  Profiler

One of the application utilities in the Homebase Solution Suite, The Profiler Agent presents companies with a point-in-time snapshot of their IT environment, capturing vital configuration information which is a critical for “real-time” operations to continue.

Vital configuration information is captured by the agent and stored as a Profile. The Profile (snapshot) is then updated on a predetermined basis, and sent to a secure server environment (the Homebase Server). The Homebase Server then processes each Profile and compares newly received Profiles to those currently held on file. A report can then be produced detailing all changes that have occurred since the previous Profile. The Profiler Agent works across multi-platform environments.

The information contained within a Profile can be used for essential recovery plans, asset management and system migration. The report can also be used to determine target systems in the event of invocation, system migration or development projects. Profiler can also be used to compare different servers ensuring both systems are rebuilt in exactly the same way, which would prove useful, for example, in a bench marking environment

  Recovery Agent

Recovery Agent successfully transitions disaster recovery from a traditional "like for like" hardware matching recovery process to an application-based recovery process. The reliance on exact hardware matching has been removed, allowing organizations to realize cost-effective, repeatable and certain return to end-user functionality.

The Profile captured from the customer's system is sent, via email or FTP, to a secure server at the recovery site. At the recovery site a system - running at an optimum base operating system level - is selected, the Profile uploaded and the recovery process begins.

When recovering to an identified target system, inherent problems can exist, such as:

• Hardware Differences
• Server Chipset
• Disk Controller and Disk Array types
• Internal Server Configuration
• Technical expertise across multiple platforms
• Unknown state of the recovery system

Homebase removes these problems, making the differences between the customer system and target recovery system no longer a concern. As a result, the Homebase solution has become the most reliable, repeatable and certain recovery solution available in the IT software market.

The Homebase Solution Suite can be implemented across a wide range of platforms:

• Windows XP Professional
• Windows 2003 Server (all variants)
• Windows 2000 Server (all variants)
• VMWare for Windows
• Solaris 8, 9, 10
• AIX 5.1, 5.2, 5.3
• HP-UX 11 and 11i

Once implemented, Homebase is then able to recover multiple platforms utilizing a single tool. Homebase provides a common approach, using a central console and single point of control, resulting in a dramatic reduction in expensive technical, managerial and administrative resources.
